Globe says fond farewell to venue director
A North East live entertainment venue is preparing to bid farewell to its long-serving leader.
Stockton Globe, the historic art deco venue operated by ATG Entertainment, is marking the departure of venue director Jo Ager this November.
Jo joined in 2019 as the sole member of the venue team during the Globe’s restoration, working alongside Willmott Dixon, volunteers and ATG to bring the venue back to life.
Since reopening, Jo has overseen the venue’s transformation into a leading destination for live music and comedy, welcoming acts including Morrissey, Michael McIntyre, Katherine Ryan, Paul Weller and Queens of the Stone Age.
Jo said: “It’s been a true privilege to lead this iconic venue through such an exciting time.
“The passion of the team, the excitement of our audiences, and the support from our community has been fantastic.
“I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together, and I know the Globe will continue to shine brightly as a beacon for arts and culture across Teesside.”
Jo also coordinated the venue’s official reopening with His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester in September 2021, highlighting Stockton Globe’s cultural and economic impact on Stockton-on-Tees.
As is customary of Stockton Globe performers, venue director Jo Ager signs the heritage doors
She added: "It was such an honour to extend a warm welcome to His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester at our wonderful venue.
“The opening had been such a long time coming and the visit was such a fitting start to a very exciting, next chapter."
Under Jo’s leadership, the venue has hosted private hire, self-promoted and community-focused events, including celebrations for its 90-year heritage and the unveiling of a new flexible flat floor system.
Jo has also championed local causes, recently leading the announcement of NeoAngels as the venue’s nominated charity, supporting families of sick and premature babies.
As Jo departs, Peter Savage will step into the role of acting general manager to ensure a smooth transition.
