North East firm backs New Year run
A Newcastle event is set to boost New Year celebrations with a city-wide running challenge.
Develop North PLC, the regional investment company managed by Tier One Capital, has become title partner of the inaugural HogmanHOWAY 5K, which will see thousands of runners take to the streets on December 31.
The race, created by North East athletics legend Steve Cram, will start and finish at the Civic Centre and follow a route that passes several sites Develop North PLC is helping to transform.
Organised by Events of the North in partnership with Newcastle City Council and North East mayor Kim McGuinness, the event is designed for runners of all ages and abilities, from club athletes to families marking the New Year together.
Around 2000 people are expected to take part.
Ian McElroy, chief executive, Tier One Capital and director of Develop North PLC, said: “Develop North PLC is proud to sponsor the HogmanHOWAY 5K and play a part in what promises to be a fantastic New Year celebration for the region. Events like this shine a light on the best of the North East, our energy, our community spirit and our ambition.
“As Develop North PLC champions investment into the area, it’s brilliant to see occasions that draw people here and showcase what makes this region such an outstanding place to live, work and do business.”
Steve Cram added: “We’re delighted to welcome Develop North PLC on board as title partner for the HogmanHOWAY 5K.
“The run is going to showcase the heart of Newcastle, which the company is playing a big role to regenerate.
“The city centre is already a vibrant and vital hub of our regional economy, and I know that Newcastle City Council and Kim McGuinness have very ambitious plans to enhance that.
“Runners in the HogmanHOWAY 5K will enjoy a tour of some of Newcastle’s iconic landmarks and we’re working with the team at Develop North PLC to add even more New Year’s Eve sparkle to our plans for the event.”
Develop North PLC has supported more than 43 developments since 2017, delivering projects worth over £280 million and contributing to the creation of an estimated 12,000 jobs across the region.
The firm currently has 16 live developments, with most based in the North East.
Entries for the HogmanHOWAY 5K are open via Events of the North.
