Sheffield launches new investment hub

A Sheffield-based collaboration is moving forward with a new initiative designed to strengthen the city’s approach to securing investment and supporting business growth.

The ‘Landing Pad’ has officially opened in Athol, part of Sheffield’s Heart of the City development, following joint investment from the Sheffield Property Association (S-PA), Sheffield Chamber, Sheffield BID, Sheffield Technology Parks and Sheffield City Council.

Officials say the space has been created to give the city a professional, central environment where its strengths, opportunities and ambitions can be showcased to potential investors.

Designed as a dedicated venue for meetings, presentations and partnership-building, the Landing Pad will support both inward investors and existing Sheffield businesses exploring development opportunities.

It will also act as a platform for high-growth sectors, including technology start-ups, scaling firms and university spinouts seeking space, support and collaboration.

Tim Bottrill, director of the S-PA, said: “The Landing Pad represents a pivotal moment for Sheffield and demonstrates what we can achieve when we work together.

“It’s about bringing businesses from outside Sheffield whilst also growing businesses inside the city, supporting our universities and nurturing SME’s as they scale.

“The Heart of the City has been a great success, and we know that the success of this development will bleed into other developments and attract other investors into the city.

“What’s been brilliant is the immediate support from everyone involved; now we just need to get the best out of it!

“We’re not shouty people in Sheffield, but we’ve learnt how to speak louder and more confidently.

“What better way to welcome investors than to showcase what we've already achieved in a space that represents everything Sheffield stands for as a collaborative city.”

Councillor Tom Hunt, leader of Sheffield City Council, added: “Sheffield is a global, green and growing city that inspires confidence and collaboration from the Government and private sector.

“We work closely with our partners to grow the city’s economy and bring in investment.

“The Landing Pad demonstrates our commitment to collaboration and will enable us to further amplify the significant opportunities in our city.”

The initiative aligns closely with Sheffield City Council’s Growth Plan, offering a physical home for citywide economic initiatives and helping stakeholders work more closely together.

Its purpose and impact were recently highlighted on the Sheffield Property Association’s The Sheffield Sessions podcast, recorded aboard Victoria, the wide-beam boat owned by Ovo Spaces.

The episode, which can be listened to here, featured contributions from senior figures across Sheffield’s business, property and economic development landscape.
