Schools dial down distractions with new partnership

A North Yorkshire technology firm is set to support more schools across the UK as demand grows for smartphone-free learning environments.

Harrogate-based NYnet has become the exclusive UK partner for Yondr, the global company behind secure phone pouches used to restrict mobile access during the school day.

The agreement means NYnet will supply Yondr solutions to its existing education clients and to schools nationwide as more institutions adopt policies to minimise in-school phone use.

Over 200 UK schools already use the Yondr system, which requires students to lock their phones in secure pouches that can only be opened with a specialised magnetic base at the end of the day.

The partnership aims to accelerate this rollout and support schools looking to reduce distraction and improve focus.

Alastair Taylor, chief executive of Nynet, said: “Thanks to our relationship with school technology leaders and our understanding of the need for a positive approach to the challenges created by mobile devices in schools, we are well-positioned to deliver this solution and are already in discussion with a number of schools and Multi Academy Trusts in the region.

“We know how important it is to use technology solutions within schools that are specifically designed for the setting and the needs of each school community and that smartphone-free policies such as this can be implemented confidently and professionally in full collaboration with students, parents and staff.”

Derek Young of Yondr added: “With their deep experience of supporting schools across North Yorkshire and beyond with new technology, NYnet is uniquely positioned to bring Yondr’s proven solution to more classrooms, helping create calmer, safer and more focused learning environments.

“Schools using the Yondr system are already seeing powerful results with independent feedback showing that 84 per cent of schools report increased student engagement, with fewer digital distractions and improved classroom participation.”
