Law firm takes Newcastle presence to new heights
A national law firm is set to expand its Newcastle footprint with a relocation to a landmark office building in the city.
Thompsons Solicitors, a long-established personal injury and employment rights law firm, is moving later this month to the top floor of Wellbar on Gallowgate, next to Newcastle United’s St James’ Park.
Bosses at the firm, which specialises in personal injury and employment law, say the relocation will see up to 80 team members transfer from the firm’s long-standing base at Maybrook House on Grainger Street.
They add that the relocation reflects its ongoing commitment to attracting and retaining legal talent in the region while providing a modern, high-quality working environment.
Tony Hood, operations director at Thompsons Solicitors, said: “With our longstanding presence in Newcastle since the opening of our first office in 1980, we are thrilled to relocate in the heart of the city, where we’re delighted by the facilities and excellent transport links offered by Wellbar.
“It was the standout location from our property search, and the light and views offered from the ninth floor are particularly attractive.
“This strategic move underscores our continuing commitment to the thousands of clients we represent in the North East, and provides an enhanced working environment for our dedicated Newcastle-based staff, with the modern surroundings they require for collaborative working.”
The move places the firm in a recently upgraded 5000sq ft office on the ninth floor of the ten-storey building, offering panoramic views across the city.
Wellbar has undergone a multi-million-pound refurbishment programme over the past two years, improving office accommodation, communal areas and facilities, alongside significant upgrades to heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
Patrick Matheson, partner at Knight Frank, the building’s joint letting agent alongside Savills, added: “This latest letting brings the property closer to full occupancy, with only the newly-refurbished seventh floor remaining fully available, offering 14,000sq ft of Grade A office accommodation.
“And of course there is also a fantastic opportunity for an organisation to take the 5000sq ft that remains on the top floor.”
