Law firm earns B Corp certification
A North East law firm has strengthened its ethical credentials after meeting one of the world’s most recognised standards for responsible business.
Burnetts Solicitors LLP, based in Newcastle, has been certified as a B Corporation, joining a global movement of more than 10,000 businesses organisations committed to balancing profit with purpose.
Verified by non-profit body B Lab, the certification recognises businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
The process assesses every part of an organisation’s operations, including governance, treatment of employees, community impact, environmental practices and customer relationships.
Certification also requires companies to embed their commitment to positive impact into their legal framework.
Nick Gutteridge, managing partner of Burnetts Solicitors, said: “Burnetts was established over 100 years ago and we’re incredibly proud of the firm it is today.
“As the world has grown faster and seemingly more anonymous, we remain independent and true to our roots and values.
“We’ve always been about people – our team, our clients, our community, and our certification as a B Corp recognises that, along with our commitment to using our business as a force for good.
“This is a really happy day for everyone at and connected with Burnetts.”
Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK, added: “Welcoming Burnetts Solicitors to the B Corp community is hugely exciting.
“Its commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and will help spread the notion that success in business is as much about people and planet as it is profit.”
