Equinor renews ECC skills partnership
A North East clean energy skills campus is strengthening its role in workforce development after securing renewed backing from an international energy company.
Energy Central Campus (ECC) in Blyth has confirmed that Equinor has renewed its Platinum Business Sponsorship for a further year, extending its support for training linked to the low-carbon transition.
Bosses say the partnership will see Equinor, which is part of the joint venture partnership with SSE Renewables and Vårgrønn behind the development of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm in the North Sea, continue to engage with the campus’ skills programmes, helping to shape provision that aligns closely with industry needs.
They add that the sponsorship is designed to ensure learners develop practical, future-ready skills that support the growth of clean energy technologies and infrastructure, while also creating clear pathways into employment.
Martin Lawlor OBE, chair of ECC and chief executive at Port of Blyth, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Equinor as a Platinum Business Sponsor of ECC.
“As demand for clean energy grows, it is essential that skills provision evolves alongside the sector.
“Equinor’s continued involvement helps ensure our training remains closely aligned with industry needs and focused on building the workforce required for the future of the clean energy sector.”
Tom Nightingale, local supply chain manager at Equinor, added: “Equinor is proud to continue its partnership with Energy Central Campus in developing the future workforce of the offshore wind industry.
“With our new North East based operations facility being the home to the Dogger Bank, the world’s largest offshore wind farm, investing in local skills is a top priority.
“Together, we are building the high-level skills needed to power the UK’s energy transition.”
Energy Central Campus is a partnership between the Port of Blyth, Northumberland County Council and the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, focused on building a strong talent pipeline for the expanding clean energy sector.
The campus forms part of the £95 million Energising Blyth regeneration programme, aimed at supporting economic growth, skills and connectivity across the town.
