Surveyor delivers multi-million-pound mutual project
A building surveyor and project management firm has completed a multi-million-pound financial sector project.
Silverstone Building Consultancy has refurbished a 200-year-old Grade II-listed city base to create a Newcastle Building Society hub.
Bosses say the scheme has delivered “a branch with the next generation in mind”, with financial services facilities complemented by free-to-use community spaces.
Work on the 10,000sq ft city centre hub – next to Newcastle’s Grey’s Monument – included a full-height rear extension, creation of a waterproof barrier and large floor cavity infilling.
Newcastle and Leeds-based Silverstone Building Consultancy worked alongside lead contractor Arcas Building Solutions and Architects Group, which drew up project plans.
M Worldwide delivered interior design work, with mechanical and electrical services firm Clark Degnan and planning firm KLR also supporting the venture.
Josh Brown, Silverstone Building Consultancy associate director, said: “This was an ambitious project, which has breathed new life into an iconic building that had been vacant for many years.
“There were challenges along the way, including restricted access, working within listed building confines and water ingress.
“But the whole professional team and client worked cohesively and effectively.”
Andrew Haigh, Newcastle Building Society chief executive, added: “Monument is our biggest single branch investment and a huge commitment to our home city.
“I’d like to thank Silverstone for steering this redevelopment forward.”
