Hill Dickinson appoints employment partner

Commercial law firm Hill Dickinson has appointed Paul Scope as a partner in its Newcastle office, launching a dedicated employment law offering in the North East.

Paul joins from Ward Hadaway, where he was a partner in the employment team, and brings more than 25 years’ experience advising private, public and third-sector organisations.

His work spans workforce restructuring, TUPE transfers, collective redundancies and complex litigation across sectors including manufacturing, professional services and education.

Paul’s appointment establishes an employment capability in Newcastle, building on the firm’s national practice.

He said: “Hill Dickinson has an excellent reputation nationally, and has had a significant impact in the North East in the few short years since opening here.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time to join the firm as it invests in its brand presence.

“The firm’s positive culture is clear for all to see and I’m looking forward to linking up closely with Tom, as we expand the commercial support we provide to our clients.”

Fiona Parry, head of business services group at Hill Dickinson, added: “Paul’s appointment builds on the existing expertise and network within our employment team across the regions, ensuring our clients can access our specialist advice wherever they need us.

“Expanding our business services group further in Newcastle strengthens our ability to provide high-quality, commercially focused employment support locally while connecting clients to the full depth of our national team.

“Working alongside Tom Pollard and our corporate and private client teams, I’m looking forward to seeing Paul further grow our offer as we continue to build on the range of services we provide in Newcastle.”

Hill Dickinson opened its North East office in 2022 and has since expanded to more than 20 people, adding marine, private client and corporate teams as part of its wider regional growth strategy.

Kerstie Skeaping, head of employment, immigration and education at Hill Dickinson, added: “Employers are navigating constant change, including evolving legislation, workforce management and the impact of new technologies.

“Expanding into Newcastle allows us to be closer to our clients in the North East and provide advice that reflects the challenges businesses face day-to-day.

“Paul’s experience and first-class reputation in the region make him the right person to lead this next phase of growth.”
