City home scheme points to success for Compass
A construction firm is cheering a city housing contract on former brewery land.
Compass Developments is set to deliver 34 homes on the Riverside Sunderland scheme.
Bosses at the Cramlington-based company say the housing – set for ex-Vaux Brewery land – will “set new benchmarks for sustainable, healthy, attractive and future-ready living”.
They add properties will include two-and three-bedroom terraced townhouses and maisonettes, and form part of a wider 133-home estate.
Building work is slated for completion next year.
Stephen O’Neill, Compass Developments’ director, said: “The extent and impact of the regeneration taking place in Sunderland is recognised nationally and internationally.
“It gives us great pride to play our part in shaping the future of city centre living.”
Compass Developments has been appointed by Igloo Regeneration.
Michelle Williams, Igloo Regeneration project director, said: “This site has an exceptionally rich heritage.
“Once the beating heart of Sunderland’s shipbuilding industry and later home to the iconic Vaux Brewery, it is now entering a new chapter.”
Riverside Sunderland is being delivered by Sunderland City Council, with support from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, the North East Combined Authority and Homes England.
