Metro Bank plots northern store push
A high street bank is expanding its physical presence in the North with plans to open new branches in two major cities.
Metro Bank has confirmed it will launch new stores in Newcastle and Leeds as part of its regional expansion strategy focused on relationship banking and face-to-face services.
The move follows three new openings in Chester, Salford and Gateshead during 2025, as the bank continues to invest in physical locations despite wider industry trends towards digital-only banking.
Bosses say the bank, which now operates across 78 locations, remains committed to maintaining a high street presence and providing access to cash, making it the only UK high street bank currently opening new branches.
Aisling Kane, managing director retail and business banking at Metro Bank, said: “We’re continuing to grow our store model, offering personal and business customers more places to bank at a time when others are shutting their doors.
“Our relationship banking service is at the heart of everything we do.
“We’re proud to deepen our presence in more communities through our local colleagues, events and partnerships.
“Our new stores will help us to support more customers and provide vital access to finance for businesses of all sizes.”
