Cartmell Shepherd appoints trainee solicitor

Cumbria-based law firm Cartmell Shepherd has appointed Tom Miller as a trainee solicitor in its agricultural property team.

Based at the firm’s Rosehill office in Carlisle, Tom joins as the tenth trainee supported by the firm, reflecting its continued investment in developing future legal talent.

Born and raised in Carlisle, Tom joins with a strong connection to the sector, coming from a farming background.

His role will see him support the agricultural property team, working with clients across the region.

Tom said: “I’ve was interested in the law from an early age.

“I knew in secondary school that this is what I wanted to do.

“My mum worked at Carlisle Magistrates Court and I had the opportunity, both there and at the Crown Court, to see the inner workings of the legal system.

“I went to Northumbria University to do a law degree.

“I always saw Cartmell Shepherd as one of the leading firms in the area so it was a straightforward decision to apply to work with them.

“Cartmell Shepherd put me through my University of Law Legal Practice Course and now I’m excited to start working with the team.”

Tom will spend the next six months with the company’s agricultural property team, based at the Rosehill offices.

After that, he will focus on other specialisms as he completes his two-year training contract.

Tom added: “I am really keen on the agricultural side.

“My grandparents farmed so I know how important the industry is in Cumbria.”

Cartmell Shepherd operates across seven offices in Cumbria and Northumberland, providing a full range of legal services to a growing client base.

Mark Jackson, director at Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Tom to the rural property team for his first seat with us.

“It’s a real pleasure to support talented individuals at the very start of their legal careers and Tom has hit the ground running.

“With Tom joining us, we now have a total of ten trainees across the firm - something we’re incredibly proud of.

“We invest a great deal of hard work, time and dedication into nurturing our trainees, helping them grow into confident, capable solicitors.

“We wish Tom, and all our trainees, the very best as they continue their journey with us.”
