Housebuilder starts work on 160-home town estate

A housebuilder has kicked off a 160-home scheme.

Bellway has started work on the Hartford Edge estate in Cramlington, Northumberland.

Bosses at the Newcastle-headquartered firm say the development will include 136 two, three, four and five-bedroom homes alongside 24 two and three-bedroom affordable properties.

They add 50 homes will be built to support users with mobility issues.

The venture will add to existing properties in Cramlington across sites that include the Foxton Mill and Arcot Manor estates, taking the number of homes built by Bellway in the town since 2018 to nearly 550.

Emma Chesterton, Bellway North East sales director, said: “We have a long-standing commitment to delivering new homes for people in Cramlington.

“This planning permission ensures that we can continue to build much-needed homes in the town.”

Earlier this week, the builder hailed its resilience in a “challenging” market after notching higher sales, but warned the Middle East conflict could stymie its future progress.
