Historic York buildings to open to public
A heritage organisation is opening the doors to some of York’s historic buildings as part of a milestone anniversary celebration.
York Unlocked has partnered with York Conservation Trust to host a one-day open event on Saturday, May 9, marking the Trust’s 50th year.
The event will open two newly refurbished properties, 60 Goodramgate and 77 Walmgate, alongside Herbert House.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the timber-framed buildings following extensive restoration, offering a rare glimpse into the city’s architectural heritage.
Herbert House will also host a heritage craft demonstration during the day.
The event highlights different periods of York’s built environment and aims to showcase the role of conservation in preserving historic spaces.
Matt McCormack-Evans, chair of York Unlocked, said: “This event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the work of York Conservation Trust over the past 50 years.
“Opening these buildings after refurbishment allows visitors to appreciate both the finished spaces and the expertise involved in preserving York’s architectural heritage.”
Guy Bowyer, chief executive of the York Conservation Trust, added: “We are proud to mark our 50th anniversary by welcoming the public into these beautifully restored buildings.
“Working with York Unlocked helps us share the importance of conservation with a wider audience and celebrate the continuing role historic buildings play in York’s daily life.”
Free to attend, the open day requires no tickets, although visitors may need to queue during busy periods.
It forms part of York Unlocked’s wider programme ahead of its main autumn festival.
