Solicitors raises nearly £8000 for charity
A Sheffield law firm has raised almost £8000 for a local assistance dog charity following a year of staff fundraising events and challenges.
Wake Smith Solicitors handed £7872 to Sheffield-based Support Dogs UK after selecting the organisation as its charity partner for the past financial year.
Employees took part in a range of fundraising activities including cake sales, quizzes, sweepstakes, wine tasting evenings and sponsored races.
The firm’s annual Christmas lunch and several half marathon events proved the biggest contributors.
Kate Lax, director at Wake Smith and charitable board member, said: “This is an incredible total, our second biggest ever.
“Employees really took this charity to heart to help fundraise for Support Dogs’ vital life-changing services.
“Thank you to everyone, including employees, family, friends and clients, who helped us reach this amazing total.”
Support Dogs UK trains assistance dogs for people affected by autism, epilepsy and physical disabilities, helping individuals live more independently and safely.
The charity, which receives more than 4,000 support requests each year, is currently developing a new £4.2 million national centre in Sheffield to expand its services.
Cordelia Van-Ristell, corporate fundraising executive at Support Dogs, which was established in 1992, added: “We are incredibly grateful to everybody at Wake Smith for raising such a fantastic amount of money and for the efforts the team have made.
“These funds come at a vital time as we look to grow our charity and will have a big impact on our ability to help more people affected by autism, epilepsy and physical disabilities.
“Thank you so much to all the team at Wake Smith and to those who supported their events.”
