Vertu strikes up brass band partnership
A North East automotive retailer is striking the right note with a new partnership supporting brass band music across the region.
Vertu has become a sponsor of the Durham County Brass Band Association, supporting its 2026 programme of contests and performances throughout the North of England.
Durham County Brass Band Association works to promote and preserve brass band music by organising competitions and performance opportunities for bands of all levels.
The partnership includes backing for events including the Picnic in the Park Entertainment Contest, Brass@Beamish at Beamish Open Air Museum, and the Festival of Brass at East Durham College in Peterlee - the largest event in the Association’s calendar.
Officials say the sponsorship will help support performances, attract new audiences and encourage the continued development of brass banding across the region.
Hugh Stephenson, president of the Durham County Brass Band Association, said: “Vertu’s support will make a tangible difference to our work.
“These contests are essential to the future of brass band music in our region.
“They give bands something to aim for, they bring communities together, and they ensure standards remain high.
“Support from Vertu allows us to focus on delivering well-run, accessible events that celebrate the very best of brass band music and encourage others to get involved.”
Vertu has a long history of supporting brass band music, including its ongoing relationship with Dunston Silver Band.
The company’s chief executive Robert Forrester has a personal connection to brass bands, having previously played in ensembles after moving to the North East.
He added: “Brass bands are about far more than music.
“They teach discipline, teamwork and pride in representing where you come from.
“I know from experience how formative that environment can be, and it is important that organisations like the Durham County Brass Band Association continue to create opportunities for people of all ages to take part.”
