Law firm expands estate with 'valuable addition'

A law firm has expanded.

Orwins has added Clarke Mairs to its estate.

Officials say the Newcastle-based firm’s “strong local roots and wide range of skills” make it a “valuable addition” to the group.

Under the terms of its investment in the business, Clarke Mairs’ partners will become Orwins shareholders.

Clarke Mairs employs 48 staff and provides services across areas including litigation, insolvency, commercial property, private client, company and commercial law.

Backed by Aliter Capital, Orwins employs almost 200 staff and boasts combined revenues of £28 million.

Operating offices in Manchester and London, the firm earlier this year expanded into Reading through an investment in Clarkslegal.

Dov Black, Orwins' chief executive, said: “Clarke Mairs has deservedly earned a reputation for delivering the highest quality legal solutions across the North East and nationally.

“We very much look forward to working with them.”

Paul Rushworth, Clarke Mairs partner, added: “We have always focused on a client-centred approach and building an expert team to deliver high-quality practical solutions.

“We have found a like-minded partner with Orwins, and we are excited for the journey ahead as part of the group.”

Aliter Capital first invested in Manchester-based BBS Law in October 2024 and then Carter Bond in August 2025.

The firm rebranded as Orwins in May this year following its Clarkslegal investment.
