Aberdein Considine appoints senior legal duo

Law firm Aberdein Considine has made two senior appointments to strengthen its debt recovery and banking litigation capabilities across England and Wales.

Victoria-Louise Maugham has joined the firm’s lender services practice group as head of unsecured recoveries, while Sarah Phelps has been appointed senior associate in banking litigation, with both based primarily at its Newcastle office.

Victoria joins from Winn Solicitors, where she was deputy head of costs and debt recovery, bringing extensive experience across costs and debt recovery work.

She said: “I'm delighted to join Aberdein Considine in the role of head of unsecured recoveries. 

“This appointment enables me to broaden my practice area and bring my wealth of knowledge and experience to AC in an exciting time of growth and development. 

“In my previous role I built my practice across many different teams, having practised as a costs lawyer for the last nine years. 

“I pride myself on my commercial focus and take a strategic, holistic approach to litigation to ensure I achieve the best outcome for my clients.”

Sarah joins from TLT and will report to Shilpi Jairath, who was recently promoted to partner for banking litigation operations across England and Wales.

Sarah added: “Joining Aberdein Considine allows me to bring my financial services litigation experience to an exceptional team while deepening my focus on secured recoveries. 

“Having spent years advising major financial institutions on complex and high-value litigation, my priority is always to understand what matters to clients and deliver clear, commercially sound strategic advice. 

“I look forward to working alongside the team to achieve successful outcomes and support Aberdein Considine’s continued growth.”

Their appointments strengthen Aberdein Considine's growing Newcastle operation and its specialist lender services offering.

Shilpi added: “Sarah brings a wealth of experience in secured recoveries and she will no doubt be a real asset to our banking litigation team.
