Building safety firm grows with lift operator deal

A building safety and regulatory compliance services firm has expanded with a takeover.

Complii has bought The General Lift Company.

Bosses say the move for the Kent-based operator will bolster Complii’s lifts and escalators division’s presence across London and the South East.

Founded in 1986, The General Lift Company is known for providing maintenance, repair, refurbishment, installation and emergency call-out support to commercial and public sector clients.

Under the terms of the deal, the Swanley firm’s existing operational and technical leadership – including managing director Derek Powis – will remain in place.

Sarah Dixon, chief executive at Bicester-based Complii, whose portfolio includes firms across England and Scotland, said: “The General Lift Company has built an outstanding reputation across London and the South East.

“It strengthens our lifts and escalators division in a region that matters enormously to our growth.”

Derek added: “Joining Complii marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for us.

“As part of a larger group, we gain access to greater scale, resources and support.”

The deal comes just weeks after Complii bought Glasgow-based Classic Lifts (Scotland).
