Myerson appoints new chief executive

Altrincham-based law firm Myerson has appointed Richard Lloyd as chief executive, with current chief executive Carl Newton moving to become non-executive chair of the board.

Richard takes up the role on September 1 after 26 years with the employee-owned firm.

He previously led Myerson’s commercial property team before becoming chief operating officer in 2019 and has worked alongside Carl for more than two decades.

As chief executive, Richard will lead the firm’s strategic direction and day-to-day operations, while Carl will oversee governance and help safeguard the purpose of its Employee Ownership Trust.

Richard said: “I am incredibly proud to become chief executive after 26 years with Myerson.

“Together, we have built a successful business with exceptional people, trusted client relationships and a culture rooted in our core values.

“The future is exciting.

“We have ambitious plans to continue growing Myerson as one of the UK's leading independent law firms.

“As an employee-owned business, we are free to invest for the long term, attracting the very best talent, delivering exceptional service for our clients, making a positive contribution to our communities, and creating a responsible and sustainable business for the future.”

Carl has led Myerson since 2005, overseeing a period of sustained organic growth which has seen the firm grow from a £5 million practice into a business generating annual revenues of more than £19 million.

Founded in 1982, Myerson now employs around 165 people and advises businesses and individuals across the UK and internationally.

The firm became Manchester’s first 100 per cent employee-owned law firm in 2024, with the leadership changes forming the next stage of its long-term development.

Carl added: “Leading Myerson over the past 21 years has been the greatest privilege of my professional career.

“Watching the firm grow into the business it is today has been an incredible journey.

“This leadership transition reflects the strength and depth we have built over many years.

“I am excited to continue supporting the firm as chair of the board, helping to safeguard our employee-owned structure and ensuring Myerson continues to thrive for the benefit of our people, our clients and future generations.”
