Winckworth Sherwood appoints finance partner

Law firm Winckworth Sherwood has appointed Sean Houlihan as partner in its banking and finance team, adding further senior expertise to its growing Manchester office.

Sean joins from Pinsent Masons, where he was a legal director leading its social housing finance and real estate finance property practices.

He brings more than 25 years of experience across the real estate finance and social housing sectors and is well established in the North West market.

His experience includes advising major clearing banks on real estate investment and development funding matters.

Rebecca Jason, social and sustainable finance partner at Winckworth Sherwood, said: “Manchester and the wider North West continue to be a focus for residential real estate and social housing activity.

“Sean’s experience advising lenders on real estate investment, development funding and social housing finance brings valuable additional depth to our team at a time when clients are looking for advisers who understand both their commercial needs and a dynamic local market.

“His appointment supports our growth plans in Manchester and adds further property security capability to the banking and finance team, strengthening our offer to funders, housing providers and developers across the region.”

Sean’s arrival follows a series of senior appointments as Winckworth Sherwood continues to expand its expertise and services in Manchester.

Recent additions include real estate partner Sarbjeet Gill and social housing partner Shazia Bashir.

They join an established Manchester team which includes head of planning Colette McCormack, social and sustainable finance partner Rebecca Jason and residential development sales legal director Laura Stephens.

Sean’s appointment builds on the firm’s investment in the city, which has also seen its Manchester operation relocate to Bruntwood SciTech’s Pall Mall development.

Richard Tinham, managing partner at Winckworth Sherwood, added: “Sean’s appointment is another important step in the continued growth of our Manchester office and our wider plans across the North West.

“His deep experience in real estate finance and social housing finance adds further strength to our national banking and finance capability, while enhancing the specialist, on-the-ground advice we can offer to clients in a region where we continue to see significant opportunity.”
