Fintech bank expands in ‘beating heart’ of Leeds

A fintech bank has expanded its presence in Leeds with a move to larger offices as it continues to invest in technology-led growth and recruitment.

LHV Bank has relocated to Wellington Place, in the city’s emerging ‘Northern Square Mile’, reinforcing its long-term commitment to Leeds and its financial services sector.

The district is already home to financial businesses including Lloyds Banking Group, Rathbones and Equifax, as well as being close to the Financial Conduct Authority’s northern regional base.

Bosses say access to technical talent was a key factor behind its decision to remain and reinvest in the city, with Leeds’ universities supporting a growing workforce across financial services, technology and data.

They add the larger base will allow it to retain experienced employees, recruit locally and strengthen its roots in the city as the bank continues to grow.

Kris Brewster, interim chief executive at LHV Bank, said: "Leeds is fast emerging as one of the UK’s most exciting growth cities, combining genuine innovation, large scale regeneration and a thriving, research-led economy with access to the technical talent that underpins our digital-first proposition and the ambition that we’re looking for. 

“Choosing to expand here rather than move elsewhere was an easy decision. 

“The ongoing transformation of the city centre makes it an increasingly attractive place to work, and the long-term growth story of West Yorkshire as a key fintech hub, is exactly the kind of foundation we want to build on. 

“These new premises reflect our belief in Leeds and our commitment to investing in the region as we continue to grow.” 

The bank is one of more than 100 fintech businesses operating across West Yorkshire and also has offices in the City of London and Manchester.

Its move comes amid wider recognition for the business, which recently received the Best Newcomer accolade at the British Bank Awards and was included in The Sunday Times’ Best Places to Work list for a third consecutive year.
