Contractor hails town precinct project landmark

A building contractor has hailed a retail redevelopment “milestone”.

Esh Construction has completed external brickwork on Eston Precinct.

Bosses say the 50,000-plus-brick landmark means the scheme is one step closer to creating a 14,650sq ft seven-shop, leisure, event and market space venture that will “serve as a catalyst for future growth and redevelopment in Eston town centre”.

They add fit-out work on a number of stores is “advancing” alongside security shutter installation, external paving and service yard groundworks.

The milestone comes after the original precinct, based in the town of Eston, set between Redcar and Middlesbrough, was last year razed to the ground.

Grant Watson, construction director at Bowburn-headquartered Esh Construction, which is working with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council on the development, said: “This progress marks a major milestone.

“Seeing the structure really starting to take shape is extremely rewarding for me and the team.

“I am looking forward to seeing the completed precinct and the benefits it will bring to the area and local people.”

The development has been funded by the Government and Tees Valley Combined Authority, with Esh Construction working with Identity Consult, SPACE Architects, Portland Consulting Engineers and Fairhurst.

Councillor Lynn Pallister, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council cabinet member for growth and enterprise, added: “It’s fantastic to see the continued progress at Eston Precinct.

“We’re creating a place that residents can be proud of and that businesses will want to be part of.”
