Mincoffs advises on new goalkeeper award
A North East law firm has supported a sports technology company on a high-profile collaboration with Microsoft and the Premier League.
Newcastle-headquartered Mincoffs Solicitors advised Goalkeeper.com, a goalkeeper performance data specialist, on the launch of the Goalkeeper Performance of the Season award.
The inaugural award was won by Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in June.
Shortlists are determined using Goalkeeper.com’s Overall Goalkeeper Value (OGV) metric, powered by Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Foundry.
The technology analyses goalkeeper performance by assessing individual actions and their contribution to preventing goals, helping measure a player's value to their team across matches and the season.
Chris Bowen, an associate solicitor in Mincoffs’ commercial services team, worked closely with Goalkeeper.com to advise on the commercial contract underpinning the collaboration.
The firm’s wider commercial services team also provided advice on trade mark and intellectual property matters relating to the partnership.
Chris said: “Goalkeeper.com is an industry leader in goalkeeper analysis and recruitment and it was our pleasure to support the team with the legal aspects of this transaction.
“This award is important not only in recognising the depth of talent and expertise of the goalkeepers in the Premier League, but also the innovation behind the OGV metric.
“The inaugural award reflects the hard work of everyone involved, and we look forward to working with the team at Goalkeeper.com in the future.”
Brendan Roslund, chief operating officer of Goalkeeper.com, said: “Chris worked exceptionally hard and diligently to make the commercial process as seamless as possible.
“We look forward to working with him and the Mincoffs team in the future.”
