Steel fabrication company shows its mettle

A small engineering company continues to go from strength to strength despite the growing economic turmoil.

Steve Brettle Fabrication Limited, a steel fabrication and welding company, has secured enough work in the petrochemical sector to keep its workforce busy until at least April or May next year.

The Middlesbrough-based company has increased its workforce by two as it targets new sectors following a £30,000 investment in section rolling and welding equipment.

The latest investment means the company has spent close to £100,000 in the past 20 months in plant and machinery since more than doubling its workspace with a move to Bowes Road Industrial Estate, at Riverside Park, Middlesbrough. It now employs 12 people.

In 1999, owner Steve Brettle used his redundancy money to start his own company when Nu-town Fabrications shut following its owner’s retirement. He re-employed all six of his workmates, one of who continues to work for him.

He said: “I’ve got a good set of lads, who have shown me loyalty and commitment, and it is their tremendous work ethic that has helped make Steve Brettle Fabrication a sought-after partner on a range of engineering projects.

“We have an unblemished safety record, we consistently demonstrate on contracts that we are efficient and reliable, and we have invested not inconsiderable sums of money in plant and machinery to improve quality and delivery. This has helped us become an approved supplier for a number of large companies. However, we are not resting on our laurels and are actively pursuing long-term contracts in other sectors.”
