Film festival tunes into Bay watch

Whitley Bay will become the epicentre of international film and TV later this month.

Inspired by the HBO show ‘Madmen’, Northern Lights will kick start the 2010 festival with an afternoon dedicated to the role of advertising in TV, and the seaside town of Whitley Bay has been selected as the prime location.

Tim Allison, producer of the project, said: “We’re curious about how advertising and TV work together, the people and the places, the fusion and frictions.

“We’re pretending Whitley Bay has become an important location in film and TV and as a risk taking investor has decided to pump millions into the place. He wants it to attract Hollywood, Bollywood and HBO producers and directors to the region for their next blockbuster.”

Four creative teams have been challenged to transform the ‘Life is gay at Whitley Bay’ poster into a design of cinematic size at the Baltic, in what will be the ‘investor’s’ final project.

Spanning poster image, TV spot concepts and digital animation, each team will come up with their own ideas based on their speciality.

Tim Allison added: “The day is about sharing ideas, taking risks and having fun.

“We are trying to achieve a mix of relevant discussion and engaging presentation. The ‘Pitch’ is an insight into the mind of the Admen with a fun, regional twist and we’d like to leave the people who attend with a fresh perspective.”
