Blair sports new scheme for businesses
FORMER Prime Minister Tony Blair has launched a new scheme which aims to get North East businesses working together to improve access to sport for all.
The first corporate partnership to be created by the Tony Blair Sports Foundation is with the South Durham Enterprise Agency – the product of a merger between the Enterprise Agency for Wear Valley and Teesdale, and Sasda, the agency for Shildon and Sedgefield.
The agency is the first to join the corporate membership scheme, which will see it work closely with the charity as it aims to gain access to as many businesses as possible.
North East businesses that sign up to the Sports Foundation’s new scheme, will give their employees the opportunity to volunteer as sports coaches and officials, in the process opening up sport to young people in their local communities.
Speaking after the launch event in Sedgefield, County Durham, Mr Blair, patron of the foundation, said: “I have always been passionate about sport and its capacity to change people’s lives; it is often the best public health policy and the best way to bring people together.”
