Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) at Northumbria University
Also known as the Common Professional Examination (CPE) the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) provides the academic stage for non-law graduates who intend to practice law. Completion of the GDL allows entry to the Legal Practice Course (LPC) to train as a solicitor or the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) to train as a Barrister. Both the LPC and BPTC are offered at Northumbria.
Students who pass the GDL first time are guaranteed a place on Northumbria’s LPC. Although the Bar Council does not permit institutions to guarantee places on the BPTC, favourable consideration is given to internal candidates. In addition, internal candidates on both vocational programmes receive a substantial fee discount.
The GDL is available full-time and distance learning.
