Dyer engineering grow for the future
Dyer Engineering, a leading fabrication and precision engineering company based in County Durham, has boosted job numbers and recorded its strongest trading in 35 years after investing in plant and machinery.
Dyer, based in Annfield Plain, successfully rode the recession, and has recently invested over £500,000 in its modern manufacturing facilities and increased skilled job numbers by 20% to 100.
Dyer has operated successfully since 1977 in the fabrication and precision engineering industries. The company is currently undertaking a major investment programme and systems overhaul to prepare for new markets and growth.
This financial year the company recorded a turnover figure of £8 million, up 20% on the previous year and now has a three year plan to boost that figure to £12 million.
The company is also preparing to invest a further £1.2 million in facilities and machinery as it looks to create another 30 jobs over that period.
The company is thriving on major contracts with large clients like Cummins and BAE, although work on parts for the Terrier armoured vehicle will end with the closure of the Newcastle plant in 2013
General Manager, Graeme Parkins joined the company last year and is upbeat about the future after putting together a fresh management team that is preparing Dyer for growth.
Graeme said: “There is plenty of work out there. Our main priority is to continue to reshape the business to prepare it to cope with new work as we secure it. We knew the BAE Project would come to an end and we have been preparing for that eventuality for some time by focusing on new markets such as the booming renewables and oil & gas industries.”
“Dyer is undergoing a transformation and is now in much better shape to grow and we are creating new jobs. We are very much part of the community here and we want to secure skilled employment for generations to come.”
Finance director Richard Bradley also recently joined the team at Dyer from Formica.
He said: “We have recently increased our warehousing capacity and installed some of the latest machinery on the market. On top of that we are improving our processes and have plans to adopt a new management software system that will streamline our business, tighten efficiencies and allow us to grow in line with our strategy.”
