Employee-ownership on closer inspection
Let’s go back to last week’s employee-ownership debate, and look at couple of comments from business bodies.
Iain Hasdell, chief executive of the Employee Ownership Association, said: “Whilst growing employee ownership should be part of the UK’s Industrial Policy, such growth does not require a dilution of the rights and working conditions of employees – indeed employee ownership often enhances them.”
CBI chief, John Cridland said: “In some of Britain’s cutting-edge entrepreneurial companies, the option of share ownership may be attractive to workers, rather than some of their employment rights. But I think this is a niche idea and not relevant to all businesses.”
So, there’s some suggestion that this is believed to be one of those eleventh hour, Thick of It style ideas. But could the employee-ownership idea be an attractive proposition to blossoming start-ups? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
