Recruitment specialists celebrate second anniversary

SPECIALIST recruitment firm Drayton Partners is celebrating its second year in business having almost quadrupled its sales from year one.

Launched in 2010, the firm predominantly works across the FMCG and Retail sectors but has a growing North East operation. The team specialises in mid to senior management recruitment and has progressed from only two directors at launch to a team of five. Building on its successes so far, year three will see the business further develop its North East proposition.

It will combine this regional focus whilst also building its international presence, having already made successful placements in Europe, Asia and North America.

Joint founder Rob Seery said: “We have enjoyed an excellent first two years of trading and our performance has exceeded all our forecasts. We now have a fantastic team in place, and a growing reputation for delivering complex recruitment projects within the manufacturing, supply chain, finance, HR and commercial disciplines.

“2008 and early 2009 were challenging commercial periods for the recruitment industry as a whole. However from mid 2009 to early 2010 there was consistent growth. We identified an opportunity to be part of that resurgent market and started Drayton Partners in autumn 2010.

“One of the things we are most proud of is the amount of repeat business we are enjoying, which is proof in itself that we are offering clients a smarter approach to senior recruitment projects.”

Rob continues: “The food and drink sector, one of our key focus areas, has over 2,500 large scale manufacturing sites across the British Isles and is the largest manufacturing employer in the UK. As recently reported, food and drink will be one of the key contributors to any revival in UK manufacturing, so it makes sense that they are looking for leading talent”.

“As a case in point, the Scotch whisky category has seen huge growth in export sales recently, with the Scotch Whisky Association releasing figures last month showing that the value of exports increased this year by 12% to £4.2 billion. Drayton Partners are one of the most active recruiters in this category, working with the likes of Whyte & Mackay, the leading distillery whose brands included Dalmore and Isle of Jura.

“We partnered with the business this year to help them recruit two crucial positions in the innovation and supply chain arena. The two people we headhunted will bring something completely different to the business and help Whyte & Mackay grow their share of this buoyant category”.

Drayton Partners recruit for leading businesses such as Greggs, Coca Cola, Carlsberg, Boots, GSK, Marks and Spencer, and Warburton’s. In 2012 the company was awarded a grant from the European Regional Development Fund for a strategic marketing project, having being identified as a growing economic contributor to the region and one that would continue to create jobs.

Rob concludes: “Persuading individuals to leave their current employer is a lot more complicated than say five years ago. However despite the uncertain economic climate, we find that the most ambitious companies still appreciate the value in recruiting the very best talent in their market.

“Our company ethos is simple - we believe that fundamental to our ‘smarter’ approach is building long-term strategic partnerships with our clients and candidates.”
