French feel the retail pain

As Virgin Megastores in France look set to file for bankruptcy, a BBC report suggests the looming demise has been received with shock and panic in the French media.

The news doesn’t seem so unusual among our own retail headlines of late. The scenario gives us the outside perspective.

So, what does it signal? Is this simply market forces in effect; forces that should be left to take their course, or should their be regulation of powerful digital rivals?
