Football sponsorships big business for gambling companies

How often do we see huge companies throwing their bags of money at sports teams and individuals just to attach their brand to a particular face?

It is now considered a thing of normality in sport, football in particular, when small and big companies spend millions for the teams jerseys to have their company logo embodied into it and for it to be on display for the world to see.

Gambling companies appear to be taking over football with their sponsorships. In fact, it is now rare to see a Premier League club not have some sort of deal with a big name player in the gambling sector, whether they are online sports betting firms, casinos operators, or a company which targets niche markets, like handicap betting or focusing on a particular sport.

There is no hiding from the fact that football, especially in the top leagues, in now controlled by money and how much you have got of it. Everyone is a winner when it comes to sponsorships in football - on the professional side of things anyway. Gambling companies pump mega amounts of money into the clubs which keep them ticking, whilst in return their name is being displayed to the millions of spectators both at the events and those who are watching from home, yielding them a truck-load of money in return.

Another benefit of the betting companies fastening themselves onto a professional football club is the reputation that they can gain from it. Clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool boast supporters from every nook and cranny on the planet, meaning that their followers will instantly favour the company which are injecting money into their team.

By joining forces with a club, you are essentially providing a platform for their supporters to consume your goods, in this case gambling, in an environment which they feel safe and secure and can trust the company because, well because their heroes do too.

Sponsorship in football is a touchy subject with some fans of the game. Some detest everything that football has become in terms of the insane prices that supporters are forced to cough up if they want to go and support their team, and blame the companies inserting the money.

Others, though, see the clubs for what they essentially are - businesses, and understand that publicity is a massive factor in making a business successful.
