New partner at growing law firm

A leading North East law firm has strengthened its growing team with the appointment of a new partner specialising in family and matrimonial law.

Gordon Brown Law Firm has recruited Simon Dakers, who has relocated from Burnley to the North East to take up the position of family partner at the firm’s Newcastle office.

Simon was born in Berwick-upon-Tweed and spent his early childhood in Monkseaton. He trained as a solicitor with Burnley-based Smith Sutcliffe where, during a 17-year career, he worked his way up from trainee to partner and became head of family and litigation.

Simon said: “I’m really excited to be joining a company that shares the same ethos as myself. Gordon Brown Law Firm is a forward thinking practice and I’ll be looking to help develop and grow the successful family team.

“The move is something my family and I have wanted and planned to do for a while now. It was a case of finding the right role in the right business and I am pleased to say that I have found that at Gordon Brown. It’s a growing and forward thinking law firm but has still retained a personable and friendly approach.”

Simon will work on family and matrimonial cases including divorce and finance. He will also represent children and their families in private and public cases and will work with clients on domestic abuse cases.

He is a member of the Law Society’s Family Law and Children Law panels and also a Resolution accredited specialist in children, finances and domestic violence and abuse.

Ian Lawson, head of the family team at Gordon Brown Law Firm, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Simon to the company. As a highly skilled and experienced family law expert he will be a tremendous asset, who brings a wealth of experience in handling complex cases.

“Simon’s appointment can only strengthen the highly capable and professional service already offered by our skilled and experienced team.”

Gordon Brown Law Firm is a multi-disciplinary law firm based in Newcastle and Chester-le-Street.
