Charles Tyrwhitt opens 21st store in Leeds

Charles Tyrwhitt has taken the wraps off its 21st store, opening in the landmark new Trinity Leeds shopping centre.

Leeds is the latest addition to Charles Tyrwhitt’s portfolio of stores, with flagship outlets in London’s Jermyn Street as well as New York and Washington. The new store has created around a dozen new jobs.

“Our aim is to open a small number of prestigious stores in the very best locations,” founder Nick Wheeler told Bdaily.

“We don’t want to have a store on every street but our data showed a high number of loyal customers in West Yorkshire and we’re delighted to be able to give them a store to call their own.”

Nick said the company was on course to open eight stores over the next three years, both in the US and the UK.

The store, situated in the centre’s Albion Street, comprises 1,896 sq ft of space - 1,518 sq ft of which makes up the retail floor.

Charles Tyrwhitt is Britain’s biggest mail-order shirt company with sales of more than £100 million. Yet its commitment to the high street is clear, with the Leeds store following on from signature openings in London’s Holborn High Street, New York’s Avenue of the Americas and Washington’s Connecticut Avenue in 2012.

Nick, who sold his first shirt from his bedroom at university in 1986, said he was delighted with the company’s progression.

“Our quality, attention to detail and commitment to providing the best value for money sets us apart from the rest,” he explained.

“We are proud of our traditions and want to increase our visibility on the high street as well as ensuring our online customers have an enjoyable shopping experience.”
