RTPI Young Planner’s Conference set for Leeds
Deloitte Real Estate and planning and urban design consultancy Turley Associates are to sponsor the Royal Town Planning Institute annual Young Planners’ Conference as it heads to Leeds.
Key Government planning figures, Planning Minister Nick Boles and Chief Planner Steve Quartermain, are lined up to be keynote speakers at the Young Planners’ Conference 2013.
The event will take place at a range of venues across the city, including the Leeds City Museum, the Doubletree at the Hilton and the Carriageworks Theatre, on 11th and 12th October.
The theme of the conference is ‘Planning Out of Recession’ and it is aiming to examine how planning can address many of the UK’s current challenges and opportunities, against a backdrop of an unprecedented economic downturn.
It will explore and debate the extent to which the planning system is geared towards and has been successful in facilitating sustainable economic growth. Other confirmed speakers include Clive Betts MP, Liz Peace (BPF) and RTPI President Peter Geraghty.
Angela Barnicle, head of Deloitte Real Estate in Leeds and joint headline sponsors of the event for the third successive year, said: “Planning must be at the heart of any strategy to help Leeds, Yorkshire and the whole of the UK to thrive in a challenging economic climate.
“It is appropriate that this event is coming to Leeds at this time. 2013 is seeing the completion of two major developments, Trinity and the Arena, that are helping to change the face, and the reputation, of the city.
“Leeds is a perfect example of the lift that ambitious and well-delivered schemes can give to a city. But naturally people want to know what’s next, and what can be done to maintain the momentum.
“The conference will give an insight into that, for the UK’s brightest, most up-and-coming planners in attendance. This is a major event in the planning calendar and one which Deloitte Real Estate is delighted to support for the third successive year.”
