Students secure scholarship places at Ward Hadaway

Two promising law students at Newcastle University have been awarded scholarships by law firm Ward Hadaway.

Ross Howells, who is studying European Legal Studies (LLB), and Hollie Morgan, who is studying Law (LLB), are the first recipients of a new scholarship scheme which Ward Hadaway has set up with Newcastle University.

The scholarship was open to applications from the ten students on legal studies courses who achieved the highest marks overall in their first year exams in 2012.

Those students applied with their CV and short statement in support of their application.

Applicants were then shortlisted and interviewed by a Partner and an Associate from Ward Hadaway, along with Professor Kathryn Hollingsworth from the University.

Ross and Hollie stood out as exceptional candidates and were duly offered the scholarships.

As part of the scholarship award, the two will each undertake eight weeks of work experience with Ward Hadaway over the next two years in the firm’s Newcastle office.

Paula Myers, Partner and head of graduate recruitment at Ward Hadaway, said: “Ross and Hollie are very worthy recipients of our first scholarships with Newcastle University.

“As a firm, we believe in encouraging and investing in the next generation of outstanding lawyers and this scholarship scheme is a very practical way of doing just that.

“I hope that Ross and Hollie enjoy their time at Ward Hadaway and get a real insight and feel for what it is like working at a Top 100 law firm.”

Professor Hollingsworth from Newcastle University said: “Ross and Hollie both worked extremely hard during their first year and we were delighted to be able to offer them the scholarships. This is a great opportunity for Ross and Hollie to gain some valuable work experience while they study.”
