Leeds engineering consultancy in line for Employer of the Year Award

Grontmij, the Leeds-based engineering consultancy, has been named as one of the finalists in the prestigious Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) Employer of the Year Award for 2013. The award acknowledges employers which show excellence and innovation in developing the engineers of the future and seeks to reward organisations that champion young people within the building services industry. Grontmij has been recognised for its structured and defined approach to the training and development of its graduates and young engineers, as well as actively encouraging them to forge links with educational establishments to promote science and maths subjects and building services engineering to aspiring students. The firm, whose areas of expertise include the fields of energy, highways and roads, light rail, sustainable buildings and water, has also demonstrated key development opportunities including a sponsored study, a Graduate Forum (comprising seminars and debates hosted by senior engineers) and a Graduate Challenge scheme aimed at enhancing technical and commercial skills. Geoffrey Palmer, Grontmij’s director for energy, planning and design, said: “This marks the second year that we have been shortlisted for this award and we are delighted, once again to be announced as finalists. “Grontmij has always been focused on providing structured learning and development opportunities for our graduates and young engineers and we recognise that this is pivotal to not only their careers, but also in delivering design excellence and solutions that drive value beyond engineering for our clients.” Final winners will be revealed at an awards day at the IMechE in London on October 9.
