RMT back search for North East's unsung business stars

An awards scheme designed to recognised the North East business community’s unsung heroes has signed up a new category sponsor.

Gosforth-based RMT Accountants & Business Advisors are backing the new Superstar Awards, which have been launched by Entrust and Pitman Training Newcastle to honour the achievements of administrative and support staff working in businesses across the region.

The Superstar Awards are aimed at individuals working in a range of roles, from PAs, secretaries and receptionists through to office managers, accounting technicians and customer service staff, and cover a number of different categories, with an overall 2013 Superstar being chosen from the winner of each section of the competition.

RMT Accountants are supporting the Awards’ Number Crunchercategory, which focuses on staff working in a support role in an accountancy practice, or within the finance team of any public or private sector organisation.

The Superstars will be named at a fun and informal evening for the shortlisted entrants and their families and friends at As You Like It in Jesmond on Wednesday 20 November.

Anthony Josephs, commercial services director at RMT Accountants, says: “Support staff who look after day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting tasks are the lifeblood of any organisation. They’re the ones who make sure wages and expenses get paid on time, that invoices are sent out and chased up, and that their employers have the funds they need in the bank to cover their running costs.

“This is a terrific initiative that recognises the importance of the work that these unsung heroes do, and we’re extremely pleased to be able to help recognise the invaluable contribution they make to the success of so many North East employers.” Newcastle-based business and enterprise support organisation Entrust recently acquired the city’s branch of specialist secretarial, book-keeping and IT trainer, Pitman Training.

Jill Duffy, centre manager of Pitman Training Newcastle, adds: “We would like businesses to nominate the superstars that really make a difference in their workplace and who often don’t get the recognition they deserve.

“We want to know why they’re so important to you and what they’ve done for your business, so we can give them a big superstar pat on the back, and we’re grateful to RMT for helping us to give them this well-deserved recognition.”

Nominations for the Superstar Awards close at 8pm on Friday 25 October and nominations can be made via the website at www.superstarawards.co.uk, where you’ll also find more information. Tickets for the awards ceremony, which cost £12 + VAT, are on sale on the website now.
