New partners signal expansion at Leathers LLP

Newcastle-based Chartered Accountancy and Business Advisory practice, Leathers LLP has appointed two new partners to deal with its expanding client list and growing numbers of assignments.

Michael Leather founded Leather & Co in 1990 and rapidly gained work with some of the North East’s leading businesses and their key personnel. Success in Durham led to the business opening in Newcastle in 2006 as Leathers LLP.

The firm’s client based has grown to include clients across the UK from Kent and London northwards and throughout Europe and the USA, enabling Leathers LLP quietly but proudly to fly the flag for the North East both nationally and globally whilst bringing business into the region.

Catherine Milbanke is re-joining Leathers as a partner where she will work with the audit and accounts team.

Catherine will bring her own practice, Durham-based 3S Accountancy Services, which specialises in not-for-profit clients including academies, charities and housing associations as well as having a client base of owner managed businesses and other social enterprises. She has been involved in many local charities over the years and is currently a non-executive director of North East housing association Broadacres.

Catherine Young brings a wealth of experience to Leathers, with previous roles in both business and in practice. Catherine is a non-executive director on the board of the University of Sunderland, chairs the audit committee for national charity Breast Cancer Care and sits on the ICAEW Regional Strategy Board.

Catherine will work with the firm’s clients on their business interests and portfolios whilst also assisting Catherine Milbanke with the development of the 3S brand.

The firm last week announced its move to launch sister practice, Leather Matthews LLP, specialising in restructuring and insolvency which will further strengthen the Leathers LLP offering to both existing and new clients.

Founder and senior partner at Leathers LLP, Michael Leather said; “The appointment of Catherine Milbanke and Catherine Young will further strengthen our offering and enhance our ability to deal with the growing numbers of assignments we are handling from both new and existing clients.

“I’ve known them both for a long time and am delighted to welcome them to the team.”

Catherine Milbanke says; “I relish the opportunity to be more fully involved in Leather LLP’s growth.”

Catherine Young says; “I am thrilled to be joining Leathers at such an exciting time of expansion. I look forward to working with our clients across both the region and further afield.”
