Ten job offers for TyneMet student

A TyneMet student who completed a two week Pre-Apprentice Course at TyneMet College was delighted to be invited to 32 interviews and receive 10 job offers since completing her course.

Stacey Walker, 22, from North Shields, who was referred to TyneMet by the Job Centre was thrilled to be offered 10 jobs since completing her two week course. She is now looking forward to starting on a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Business Administration at Mowlem & Co on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate.

The two week Pre-Apprentice Course was specifically designed by TyneMet College for people aged 19-24. The aim of the course is to provide up to date employment opportunities and teach them the necessary skills they need when applying for a place on an apprenticeship programme or employment. The course is supported by TyneMet College’s Business Development team who recruit students onto apprenticeship programmes in the local area.

The course, which is delivered at TyneMet’s Coast Road Campus, runs every two weeks and helps students to increase their confidence levels and self-esteem whilst inspiring and motivating them to be more positive about applying for employment. Since September 2013, 94 people have successfully completed the course.

Stacey said:

“I can’t believe how much my life has changed in the four weeks since completing my course at TyneMet.

“The Pre-Apprentice Course is the best course I have ever done, I have written to the Job Centre and my MP telling them this.

“My Tutor, Alan Lawless was an understanding, non-judgmental, kind, caring person who made the choice to help other people to develop and better their lives.”

Alan Lawless, Course Tutor, TyneMet College said:

“Stacey is an inspiration to young people who are struggling to find work – she took on board all of the information and training that the course offered and this, along with her hard work, motivation and dedication to finding employment has paid off.

“I wish Stacey the best for the future and have no doubt that she will succeed in whatever she sets her mind to.”
