Fletchers Solicitors Unveils 5-Point Package To Help Top Lawyers Escape The Rat Race

The legal sector may not have the best reputation for encouraging a healthy work-life balance but one North West law firm hopes to change all that by launching a unique five-point package to attract ambitious, experienced medical negligence lawyers who have had enough of the rat race.

Fletchers Solicitors, the UK’s leading serious injury and medical negligence law firm, which deals with one in 10 of all medical negligence claims in England and Wales, is seeking to build a network of specialist lawyers working from various sites across the UK.

These new recruits will be able to develop and continue their careers by practising top-end legal work and setting strategy at the key stages of cases for the number one medical negligence law firm in the UK. But just as importantly, they will not have to compromise on their personal lives or family commitments.

That’s because of Fletchers Solicitors’ unique five point package:

  • Remote working. Lawyers can work from the comfort of their own home. They will be offered a phone and a computer with full access to Fletchers Solicitors’ case management system, video conferencing and IT support, and allowed to work where they choose. This means no more long commutes.
  • Competitive salary. Successful applicants are given a highly competitive salary. This will reflect the role they are doing and the market rate, not their location.
  • Flexible working. Lawyers can choose core hours that suit their lifestyle, so for example they can opt for 8-4 rather than 9-5 if they need to do the afternoon school run. They will also benefit from flexi-time where every hour they work over their core hours can be taken back at a later date. If they work seven hours extra in a month, for instance, they get an extra holiday to take back. By doing this every month, they would earn an extra 12 days of holiday per year.
  • Solid firm. Prospective candidates can have complete confidence in Fletchers Solicitors’ prospects. Established in 1987, the law firm is on an excellent financial footing and currently handles one in ten clinical negligence cases in England and Wales. Moreover, it generates all of its own work and does not deal with claims management companies.
  • Relocation package. Lawyers who would like to be closer to Fletchers Solicitors’ head office in Southport, Merseyside can take advantage of a generous financial support offering. This includes travel expenses, rental assistance, help to buy a house, storage costs and removal fees. Up to £8,000 is available tax-free.

Sue Taylor used to work as a senior associate at a large law firm in Manchester and is listed as a notable practitioner in Chambers & Partners. She enjoyed the role, the firm and the city location, but she started to yearn for a change of pace without abandoning her career.

As a result, Sue decided to join Fletchers Solicitors, where she is now a senior medical negligence lawyer handling multimillion-pound medical negligence cases, with responsibility for risk-assessing those catastrophic injury claims. She works three days a week from home and only comes into the Southport office twice a week.

She said: “This role allows me to continue to use my skills and experience to pursue my passion for helping clients, and is very far from a step down – the opposite in fact. However, what Fletchers also offers me is flexible working hours, and remote access to allow me to work from home some of the time.

“This break from the rigid city regime has given me a highly improved work/life balance, but without giving up my career. It isn’t something I thought I would achieve. Couple that with an easy commute with good rail links, and a relaxed and friendly office environment, and I really feel I have managed to get the balance I was looking for, without the sacrifice.”

Ed Fletcher, CEO of Fletchers Solicitors, said: “We believe top lawyers have often had to give up too much in their personal lives to pursue success in their careers.

“Our network of specialist lawyers based across the UK represents a radical departure from the traditional way that law firms operate. Lawyers will still be able to work for a major law firm and receive a very competitive salary at Fletchers Solicitors. But they will also be able to make the most of remote working and flexible work patterns, and take advantage of a generous relocation package if they would like to move out of the city altogether.

“This means ambitious lawyers can get ahead in their careers while still enjoying time with their partners or being around to see their children grow up. What we’re offering is nothing short of the best work-life balance of any major UK law firm.”

Fletchers Solicitors’ new recruitment drive launches in September 2014.
