New Sheffield Partnership Combines Elearning with HR Law

A collaboration between two Sheffield firms sees the launch of a course designed to protect small businesses as the economy continues to improve.

The partnership between specialist employment and HR lawyer, Jay Bhayani, and e-learning marketplace, Training Post, offers on line training aimed at helping today’s small businesses to become more aware of legal requirements and protect themselves from the pitfalls they face.

The challenges of launching a start-up are not alien to Jay who, last month, launched her new firm Bhayani HR and Employment Law.

Talking about the law surrounding small businesses, Jay said: “National growth has been steadily increasing and confidence in the economy has seen ambitious targets coming to light, including the creation of 70,000 new jobs in Sheffield by 2023.

As a result of this, we’ll see a sharp increase in the number of SMEs which hire new staff. This usually means an increase in turnover and profits, but it can also mean an increase in outgoings, performance issues and, sometimes, grievances and disciplinaries.“

The law continues to change and employers and employees continue to find themselves in legal difficulties. One such recent change is the introduction of the ‘Daddy Daycare’ rules where parents can share parental leave.

Jay said: “This legislation finally provides equality for men and women in deciding who should care for their child. But this positive move means that employers may now have to account for prolonged periods of absence. It’s important that both employers and employees understand the law so that both the business and the employee’s personal life can function harmoniously.”

The use of online training in businesses has seen a steep rise recently due to ease of use, long-term reduction in costs, less time loss and reduced environmental impact.

Paul Hilton, managing director of Training Post, said: “Working with Jay has highlighted the importance of HR law in the workplace. Her ability to clearly explain what is generally seen as a complex area of law is showcased in the course.

It’s priced at considerably less than you would pay an HR consultant for an hour of their time and there are 10 downloadable resources to take away, including advice on staff policies, spotting signs of stress and disciplinary proceedings.

The value of the course will be felt the greatest by small businesses and, for the first week, we’ll be giving people access for free.“
