University or Apprenticeship? Event showcases 'best of both worlds'
For young people torn between going to University or pursuing an advanced apprenticeship, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) is offering the best of both worlds. School and college leavers can find out more at a series of open evenings - starting Tuesday 10 March 2015 during National Apprenticeship Week.
The first ever Degree Apprenticeship in Technology Solutions will be showcased, along with the advanced new Level 4 Legal Apprenticeship, which provides a progression route towards LLB degree for the existing Higher Apprenticeship in Legal Services.
The advanced apprenticeship programmes are delivered in partnership with leading companies, including Barclays Bank, AstraZeneca, Thales, Network Rail, BLM, Slater and Gordon, SAS Daniels, Stephensons Solicitors and Horwich Farrelly. The employers will be present at the open evenings to meet prospective recruits.
“Young people can still have the University experience, but earn at the same time with our legal and digital advanced apprenticeship opportunities,” said Liz Gorb, MMU Programme Director. “Our open evenings are an opportunity to meet employers and current apprentices, gain careers advice, discover more about University life and about the apprenticeship opportunities starting this September.”
Emily Hemlin, a second-year Paralegal Apprentice for Slater and Gordon, said: “Being able to work and study is very appealing and I am able to get hands-on experience at work and study the required aspects of Law at University. I spend a fair amount of my time in court, so I’m out of the office on a regular basis. The rest of my time is spent drafting court documents, calling clients and putting together evidence statements. I have a lot of responsibility, which has increased as I’ve got to know more about the work.”
The first open evening takes place during National Apprenticeship week on Tuesday 10 March (5pm to 7.30pm). Further events are planned for 12 May, 30 June and 18 August.
