Liverpool John Lennon Airport gears up for ‘busiest’ Christmas period

Bosses at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) are expecting to welcome significantly more passengers during the upcoming Christmas and New Year break than in previous years.

LJLA has forecast 165k passengers to use its facility during the two-week festive period, which would represent year-on-year passenger growth of 10%.

The airport’s head of PR, Robin Tudor, said: “We expect this to be the busiest Christmas and New Year getaway in recent years as thousands of passengers pass through over the festive period taking advantage of the convenience of flying via Liverpool.

“We’ve even managed to get Santa to be on hand once again before he dashes off back to the North Pole ahead of his own big getaway on Christmas Eve.”

The growth predictions will round off a busy year for LJLA. In September, the airport welcomed a string of new routes from several carriers, with Czech Airlines expanding its offering and Flybe launching its new service to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

September also saw an LJLA team head out to South Africa in a bid to secure additional routes for North West holidaymakers and business travellers.

Last month, the airport managed to smash its 2014 passenger levels with its 10th consecutive month of growth.
