Babies, baking and bonfires boost charity appeal
Staff at Tameside law firm Bromleys have raised more than £1,200 for The Christie NHS Foundation Trust with events involving babies, bonfires, a bake-off contest, bangers and mash – and much more.
The proceeds of £1,271 have been donated The Christie’s teenage and young adult treatment unit to support its leisure and social activities for patients.
Among the special events staged by Bromleys were two ‘guess the baby’s weight’ competitions, an Easter bake-off, a bonfire banquet, a bangers and mash lunch, a table football contest, raffles, quizzes, dress down days and networking events.
The Christie was Bromleys’ chosen charity of the year for 2015 but the firm also found time to support other good causes – Reuben’s Retreat in Glossop, Willow Wood Hospice in Ashton-under-Lyne, and Future for Heroes, which helps servicemen and women to prepare for their return to civilian life and is headed in the north west by Kevin Hartley, from Mossley.
For 2016, Bromleys has selected the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital as its charity of the year.
Bromleys’ senior partner Mark Hirst said: “Everyone at the firm rallied round to provide great support for our fundraising efforts in 2015 and we hope the money will make a real difference to The Christie’s teenage and young adult treatment unit.
“Having chosen another fantastic cause for this year, we are looking forward to repeating our fundraising success in 2016.”
Bromleys’ charity activities were co-ordinated by Lauren Taylor and Jill Lomas.
The teenage and young adult unit is a calm, comfortable space that also houses haematology and transplant services, as around a third of young patients at The Christie have blood-related cancers.
Money raised by Bromleys is being put towards a special fund which supports leisure and social activities, music and art therapy, magic shows and outings for teenage and young adult patients.
Kirsty Adamoli, a fundraising assistant at The Christie, said: “Not only are these activities enjoyable, they also encourage important friendships which can provide invaluable support for patients at an incredibly difficult time.
“The lovely staff at Bromleys have been very active with their fundraising and illustrate how local businesses can make such a big difference to The Christie.
“We constantly strive to bring the best treatment, research and care, and we simply could not do this without the generosity of our supporters like Bromleys.”
