Temporary vacancies in the East Midlands decline 5%
Demand for temporary professionals in the East Midlands has fallen by 5% year on year to December 2016 according to research from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo).
The data, provided by recruitment software company, Innovantage, revealed that permanent positions also experienced a fall of 7% year on year to December. However demand for professionals continued to rise across a number of sectors, including HR and technology which experienced uplifts of 36% and 23% respectively.
Commenting on the data, Julie Selby, Membership Relations Manager at APSCo said:
“After a number of months of increased optimism across the East Midlands, professional job availability experienced a minor dip as the year drew to a close. Despite commentators predicting instability in the employment market following the UK’s decision to exit the European Union, hiring sentiment has remained broadly stable in the six months since the referendum. APSCo’s findings sit in line with national average, with recent figures from the Office for National Statistics revealing that overall employment dipped slightly to 74.4% in the three months to October 2016.”
“Temporary HR professionals are being increasingly sought after, with demand rising 36% year on year to December. This sharp increase is no doubt in part as a result of increased uncertainty over the long term employment status of vital overseas staff, and the implications a vote to leave the EU could potentially have on wider employment law. Demand also rose for temporary professionals in the technology sector as the Midlands tech economy grows. Global photography solution company Picsolve, for example, is expanding its Pride Park office to host a brand new tech development team.”
