Jonathan Lees, Deloitte

Business advisory firm Deloitte has appointed Jonathan Lees to lead its restructuring services proposition in the North East.

Jonathan has been with Deloitte for nearly 12 years, previously working in Leeds and most recently in Manchester, having joined the company as a graduate from Edinburgh University in 2005.

He will be focusing on assisting corporates with the advice, support and knowledge to help transform their businesses and add value.

Jonathan will be part of Deloitte’s North East Financial Advisory leadership team alongside Harry Horrocks and David Frith, providing strategic guidance to the North East team and ensuring a locally-based, full service offering to clients in the region.

He said: “The North-East has an incredibly strong entrepreneurial and innovative business economy that makes it a hugely attractive place to work.

“As part of restructuring services I’m looking forward to helping existing and new clients overcome challenges they face by offering a proactive approach, which will help them achieve their ambitions.”

Rachel Smith, Bethany Ramsay and Sophie King, Mincoffs

Newcastle law firm Mincoffs has started the year with the announcement of three new appointments.

Rachel Smith has joins the business as a solicitor in the Family team, working alongside department head Lyn Rutherford and Associate Solicitor Emily Cannell.

Rachel specialises in all aspects of family law from arrangements for children, injunctions, co-habitation and pre-nuptial agreements to multi-million pound cases involving business assets and high level investments.

Bethany Ramsay and Sophie King also join Jesmond based Mincoffs. Conveyancing Executive Bethany studied law on a part-time basis at Northumbria University and since then has practised at a number of firms in the North East.

Meanwhile, Marketing Assistant Sophie graduated with a first class honours degree in Marketing in 2015 from Northumbria University and has spent the last year working in London supporting the marketing team at a digital media firm.

Antonia Edwards, Vanessa Robinson and Camilla Bailey, Horizonworks

Newcastle marketing company Horizonworks has bolstered its ranks with the recruitment of three new hires.

Antonia Edwards and Vanessa Robinson have joined the team as client marketing managers within the firm’s Marketing and PR division, while Camilla Bailey has been appointed as marketing executive, working across the team on marketing, PR and digital projects.

Antonia said: “Horizonworks is renowned for delivering high-quality strategic marketing to its clients and I am excited to be joining such a dynamic organisation.

Camilla said: “As a graduate, the opportunity to join Horizonworks, a company that encourages initiative and ambition, was highly attractive to me. This role offers the perfect opportunity for me to take on responsibility and develop my skills across all aspects of the marketing mix.”

Chris Anderson, Hay & Kilner

Newcastle law firm Hay & Kilner has bolstered its real estate team with the appointment of commercial property lawyer Chris Anderson.

Chris has over 10 years’ experience and will be supporting the existing work of one of the region’s leading commercial property teams, as well as looking to expand the team’s client base.

Nicola Tiffen, Partner & Head of Commercial Property at Hay & Kilner commented: “Chris is a talented commercial property lawyer with extensive experience of advising a variety of commercial clients.

Steve Williams, Waterstons

Durham-based IT consultancy Waterstons has recruited Steve Williams as executive transformation consultant.

He is tasked with growing the company’s portfolio of Higher Education (HE) clients and developing new relationships with other HE institutions throughout the UK.

Steve is the first IT professional ever to be recognised with a Principal Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) the national body that champions teaching quality throughout the HE system.

Steve said: “I’m in the unique position of having had direct experience of managing IT at the highest level in a HE environment so I understand first-hand the challenges that brings.

“There is an ever increasing amount of pressure on HE IT departments to ensure that, not only is the student experience the best it can be, but that technology is aligned to support the excellent teaching that our universities are renowned for worldwide.

“Obviously good teaching, learning and innovative research is at the heart of HE best practice but the role of technology is just as crucial for its effective delivery. I am incredibly proud that the work undertaken at Newcastle University was recognised in this context.”

David Elliot, BW Medical Accountants

Specialist advisers to the healthcare sector BW Medical Accountants has announced that David Elliot has been promoted to board level taking the role of tax director.

David has over 30 years experience in the tax and accountancy profession; he joined the Gosforth based medical accountancy firm in August 2013 as a tax adviser and has proved to be an invaluable member of the team.

He will now be overseeing tax compliance of the company’s client base including almost 100 GP practices and 1,000 medical professionals. He is also responsible for the compilation of internal taxation registers, tracking and recording systems.

David said: “I’m thrilled at being appointed a director and thank the board for this recognition of the quality of the work I have undertaken for BW Medical’s clients during the last three and a half years.”
