Temporary vacancies in the East Midlands rise by 4% year on year
Demand for temporary professionals in the East Midlands has risen by 4% year on year to February 2017 according to research from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo).
The data, provided by recruitment software company, Innovantage, revealed that despite an uplift in temporary roles, permanent vacancies experienced a minor dip, declining 5% year on year to January. Demand for temporary professionals rose notably across a number of sectors including manufacturing and the arts which recorded uplifts of 28% and 16% respectively.
Commenting on the data, Julie Selby, Membership Relations Manager at APSCo said:
“After months of increased hiring sentiment across the East Midlands, professional job availability in the temporary market has continued to hold steady. Somewhat unsurprisingly, employers are expressing caution in terms of permanent hiring activity as the government prepares to invoke Article 50 at the end of the month. APSCo’s findings sit broadly in line with the national average, with recent figures from the Office for National Statistics revealing that overall employment remained stable, at 74.6%, in the three months to January 2017.”
“Temporary professionals are being increasingly sought after in the manufacturing sector, with demand rising 28% year on year to February. This increase is no doubt as a result of the increased investment in to the sector, with Toyota recently announcing that they plan to invest £240m into the region and reaffirming its commitment to manufacturing in the UK post Brexit. Demand also rose for temporary professionals in the art sector, which will no doubt continued to be bolstered by an investment of £300,000 by Arts Council England intended to give arts and cultural organisations the resources they need to increase their work with the tourism sector.”
