Tottenham Hotspur stadium update: Foundation work begins on the massive South Stand
Construction work at Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium has been rapidly progressing over the summer months with work having now began on all four corners of the club’s 61,000-seater stadium.
With the skeletal shape of the Premier League club’s new North Stand already standing firm at the site and the East and West ends of the development already continuing apace, work has now fully begun on getting the massive new southern section of the ground built.
New images released by the North London club have shown workmen digging the foundations for the new South Stand which is set to boast one of the largest single-tier Kop-style stands in Europe.
Housing over 17,000 seats in an unbroken banked section, Tottenham Hotspur are hoping for a raucous and vibrant mass of Spurs stalwarts, similar to that at Anfield or Borussia Dortmund’s Yellow Wall.
The site of the new South Stand intersects with the club’s previous White Hart Lane home, meaning construction had to wait until after the club had officially vacated the iconic ground and demolition work was able to begin in earnest.
The £750m stadium is due to open in time for the 2018/19 season with the club still hunting around for a corporate naming sponsor for the new venue.
